Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

4 – Aberdeen defeated Ross County 2-1 at Pittodrie to take a huge step closer to securing their cinch Premiership safety. Goals from Bojan Miovski and Jamie McGrath were enough to move the Dons six points clear of 11th-placed County with just seven matches remaining. Aberdeen are now unbeaten in their last seven games against the Staggies, including four wins out of four this season. The Dons have won just 11 domestic matches against top-flight opposition this season, and four have come against County.

6 – Dundee climbed back into the top six of the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-1 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Lyall Cameron’s early strike was cancelled out by Adama Sidibeh but Amadou Bakayoko’s late winner moved Tony Docherty’s side back above Hibs in the table. The Dee are now unbeaten in their last six matches against Saints, picking up three wins and three draws since their last defeat in October 2021. It was their first victory in Perth since Marcus Haber and A-Jay Leitch-Smith found the net in a 2-0 win December 2017 – they had lost four and drawn two since then.

4 – Dundee United defeated Raith Rovers 2-0 at Tannadice to move four points clear of their opponents at the top of the cinch Championship. Goals from Tony Watt and Louis Moult helped Jim Goodwin’s side to a crucial victory in the title race. Moult’s goal was his 15th in the league this season, matching his tally in each of his two full seasons with Motherwell. It was United’s first win over Rovers this season – they had taken just a single point from the first three cinch Championship clashes and had previously managed just one victory in their last seven league meetings with the Kirkcaldy side. The title race remains on a knife edge, with Rovers still having a game in hand, but United have their destiny in their own hands and know that five wins in their last five matches will secure an immediate return to the top flight.

7 – Falkirk are cinch League 1 champions, and celebrated their title success in style by thrashing Montrose 7-1 at Links Park. Doubles from Ross MacIver and Aidan Nesbitt plus goals from Ethan Ross, Alfredo Agyeman and Ryan Shanley helped the Bairns to their biggest victory of the season. This is Falkirk’s ninth league title in their history, they have won the second tier on seven occasions and this is their second time winning the third tier, having also done so in 1979/80. John McGlynn also won this title twice with Raith Rovers - he is the first manager to win this division on three occasions, with Craig Brown, Allan Johnston and Ian McCall each having won it twice. The Bairns scored seven goals in an away league match for the first time since 1969, when they defeated Clydebank 7-1 at Kilbowie in what was also a title-winning season.

3 – Peterhead defeated Clyde 4-1 at Balmoor to move a step closer to sealing a promotion play-off spot in cinch League 2. Three goals from Peter Pawlett and one from Joe McKee helped the Blue Toon remain second in the table, and crucially eight points clear of East Fife in fifth place. It was the first hat-trick of Pawlett’s long career in Scottish and English football – in fact, the 33 year-old had never previously scored more than once in a game. Peterhead are now unbeaten in their last five games against Clyde, picking up four wins and one draw.
