10 – Aberdeen defeated Motherwell 2-1 at Pittodrie to continue their perfect start to the William Hill Premiership campaign. A Pape Gueye double was enough to keep Jimmy Thelin’s side level on points with Celtic at the top of the table and make it 10 wins out of 10 in all competitions this season. It is just the third time in Aberdeen’s history that they have started a league campaign with five consecutive wins – the others were in their last title-winning campaign in 1984/85, and in 2015/16, when they finished second. The Dons have picked up six wins and a draw in their last seven matches against the Steelmen, with their last defeat coming in August 2022.
100 – Hibernian picked up their first win of the William Hill Premiership season, defeating St Johnstone 2-0 at Easter Road. Goals from Mykola Kukharevych and Martin Boyle gave David Gray’s side all three points, propelling them up to eighth place in the table. Boyle’s goal was his 100th Scottish league goal – he has scored 62 in the league for Hibs in addition to 34 for Montrose and 4 for Dundee. Boyle is just one of eight active SPFL players with 100 goals in the top four divisions of Scottish football – the others are Rory McAllister (251), Lawrence Shankland (162), Alan Trouten (160), Brian Graham (152), Billy Mckay (134), Nicky Clark (130) and Blair Henderson (106).
5 – Falkirk defeated Airdrieonians 2-0 at the Albert Bartlett Stadium to move to the top of the William Hill Championship. Dylan Tait and Sean Mackie scored inside the final 20 minutes to make it five wins out of five for John McGlynn’s side in the league. This is just the seventh time this century that a team have won their opening five fixtures in the second tier – Falkirk themselves did it in 2002/03, and the others were Hamilton Academical (2007/08), Partick Thistle (2012/13), Rangers (2015/16), Hibernian (2016/17) and Inverness CT (2021/22). Of those previous six, only Inverness did not go on to win the title.
5 – Queen of the South moved level on points at the top of William Hill League 1 thanks to a 2-1 victory over Arbroath at Palmerston. Goals from Kieran McKechnie and Reece Lyon were enough to help Peter Murphy’s side up to second in the table, behind Alloa Athletic only on goals scored. The victory ended a run of five matches without a win against the Red Lichties, with their last success in March 2021. The Doonhamers have won all three of their league matches in Dumfries this season, and when you include the end of last season that run extends to five consecutive home league wins. This is Queens’ longest run of home league wins in over nine years, since they managed six in a row between March and August 2015.
15 – Peterhead defeated Stirling Albion 2-1 at Balmoor to extend their lead at the top of William Hill League 2 to four points. A Ross McGeachie own goal was cancelled out by Adam Brown, but Rory McAllister’s late winner extended the Blue Toon’s unbeaten league run against the Binos to eight matches. Peterhead have equalled their best ever start to an SFL/SPFL season – they also took 16 points from six matches back in 2004/05, on their way to gaining promotion from Division 3. Ryan Strachan’s and Jordon Brown’s side haven’t lost a league game since March – they have picked up nine wins and six draws in 15 matches since then.
