Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend

21 – Celtic moved three points clear at the top of the William Hill Premiership courtesy of a 4-1 victory over Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle. Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn scored a quickfire double after half-time, before an Adam Idah double rounded off the victory for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Kyogo and Kuhn both moved on to five league goals for the season – they are two of the 10 players who are currently joint top goalscorers in the Premiership. The Hoops are now unbeaten in 21 league matches, winning 19 and drawing two – their last defeat was at Tynecastle back in March.

4 – Dundee thumped Hibernian 4-1 at the Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park to climb up to seventh in the William Hill Premiership. Goals from Jordan McGhee, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Curtis Main, plus a Nectarios Triantis own goal helped Tony Docherty’s side pick up a second consecutive home win. It was the Dees’ biggest win over Hibs for more than 20 years – the last time they beat them by a three-goal margin was back in February 2003, when Gavin Rae, Steven Milne and an Ian Murray own goal gave them a 3-0 victory.

8 – St Mirren held on to their spot in the top six of the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen at the SMISA Stadium. Toyosi Olusanya and Richard Taylor scored the goals for Stephen Robinson’s side as they inflicted the Dons’ first league defeat of the season. Saints have taken 10 points from their last four matches, having taken just five from the previous nine games. St Mirren are now unbeaten in their last eight matches against Aberdeen in Paisley – they have picked up six wins and two draws since their last defeat back in February 2020.

7 – Ayr United defeated Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 at Somerset Park to maintain their strong home form in the William Hill Championship. Jay Henderson’s goal was enough to give Scott Brown’s side all three points, and move them to within a point of second-placed Livingston, whose match was postponed. The Honest Men have picked up 19 points from eight matches at home in the league this season – the joint highest in the division alongside leaders Falkirk, although the Bairns have played one game fewer. Ayr are now unbeaten in their last seven matches against Dunfermline in Ayrshire – the Pars’ last win at Somerset Park was back in December 2019.

6 – In the only game in the bottom two tiers to survive the weather, Montrose defeated Annan Athletic 2-1 at Links Park in William Hill League 1. Graham Webster and Ben McIvor-Redwood scored the goals for Stewart Petrie’s side to help them climb to sixth in the table, but only two points behind leaders Kelty Hearts. The Gable Endies are now unbeaten in their last six home matches against Annan – their last defeat was a 3-2 loss in March 2017.
