Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

7 – Aberdeen defeated Queen’s Park 4-1 at Pittodrie to progress to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. A double from Oday Dabbagh and goals from Kevin Nisbet and Graeme Shinnie handed Jimmy Thelin’s side a safe passage to a second semi-final of the season. The Dons maintained their 100% record against Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup  – they have won seven ties out of seven versus the Spiders, although the previous one was over 60 years ago. Aberdeen have now reached the last four of the Scottish Cup in six of the last nine seasons.

18 – Celtic moved into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hibernian at Celtic Park. Goals from Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah were enough to send the Hoops into the last four for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. Maeda has scored 12 goals in his last 10 matches to take his tally for the season to 27 – he is also the Scottish Cup’s joint-top scorer this season with five in three games. Celtic have won each of their last 18 Scottish Cup matches at Celtic Park – their last defeat came over a decade ago, against Aberdeen in February 2014.

6 – Falkirk moved six points clear at the top of William Hill Championship courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Dunfermline Athletic at the Falkirk Stadium. Brad Spencer’s early goal was enough to give John McGlynn’s side a crucial victory while title rivals Ayr United lost to Greenock Morton. The Bairns are now unbeaten in six league matches, winning four and drawing two, since losing to Livingston at the end of January. Nicky Hogarth and his defence kept their 14th clean sheet in 28 league matches – only ex-Bairn Kasper Schmeichel of Celtic (19) has kept more across the SPFL this season.

1 – Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Dumbarton 1-0 at the Marbill Coaches Stadium to climb out of the bottom two of William Hill League 1. Alfie Bavidge’s dramatic stoppage-time goal helped Scott Kellacher’s side move up to 8th place, taking them out of the relegation places for the first time since they were deducted 15 points in October. The Caley Jags have won 10 of their last 15 league matches, losing just four. Bavidge has scored six times in nine appearances for Inverness since joining in January, and each of the last three have been 1-0 victories.

9 – Forfar Athletic moved off the bottom of William Hill League 2 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Elgin City at Borough Briggs. Bradley Rodden’s late goal was enough to help Jim Weir’s side leapfrog Bonnyrigg Rose and escape the relegation play-off spot for the first time since November 9. The Loons also defeated Stranraer in midweek – this is the first time they have won back-to-back league games since September, and it has come at the perfect time. Forfar had won just one of their previous 10 matches against Elgin in all competitions, and this was their first win at Borough Briggs since October 2022.
