11 – Falkirk defeated Airdrieonians 2-0 at the Falkirk Stadium to move another step closer to the William Hill Championship title. Goals from Calvin Miller and Scott Arfield helped John McGlynn’s side move 11 points clear of Ayr United and Livingston at the top of the table, though the latter have a game in hand. The Bairns know that 11 more points from their remaining six matches will guarantee them the title and promotion to the top flight for the first time in 15 years. Falkirk have won all four matches against Airdrie this season without conceding a single goal – prior to this they had just one win in nine against the Diamonds in all competitions.
3 – Greenock Morton boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-1 victory over Queen’s Park at Cappielow in the William Hill Championship. Goals from Owen Moffat and Michael Garrity moved Dougie Imrie’s side to within five points of fourth-placed Partick Thistle, with a game in hand. Morton have won three consecutive league matches for the first time since December 2023, a run which also included a home win over the Spiders. Morton have lost just one of their last 15 home matches against Queen’s Park, that was a 1-0 loss last October.
3 – Montrose were the only winners in William Hill League 1 at the weekend, defeating Annan Athletic 3-1 at Links Park to move further clear of the relegation spots. A Blair Lyons double and a goal from Craig Brown moved Stewart Petrie’s side six points clear of their opponents, who currently occupy ninth place. The Gable Endies have lost just one of their last eight league matches, though five have been draws. Montrose are now unbeaten in seven home matches against the Galabankies, with their last defeat back in March 2017.
5 – Edinburgh City thumped East Fife 5-2 at Meadowbank Stadium to strengthen their spot in the promotion play-offs in William Hill League 2. Two goals from Jason Jarvis and one apiece from Innes Lawson, Tiwi Daramola and Malik Zaid moved Michael McIndoe’s side six points clear of fifth-placed Spartans and kept them three ahead of Elgin City, who are fourth. This is just the third time City have scored five or more goals at home in the SPFL, and two of them have come in the last five weeks – they also defeated Spartans 5-0 in mid-February. Saturday’s success was the Citizens’ first ever competitive win over East Fife – they had drawn one and lost four of their previous five meetings.
3 – Peterhead moved three points clear at the top of William Hill League 2 courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion at Forthbank. Both sides found the net inside the opening five minutes, but Danny Strachan’s late winner ensured the Blue Toon took all three points. Ryan Strachan’s and Jordon Brown’s side are now unbeaten in eight league matches, picking up four wins and four draws. Peterhead have managed four wins out of four against Stirling in the league – this is the first time they have completed a clean sweep against any club across a full season since they did so against both Cowdenbeath and Elgin City in their 2018/19 title-winning campaign.
