10 – Heart of Midlothian continued their perfect start to the season with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Dundee United at the CalForth Construction Arena at Tannadice Park. Lawrence Shankland gave Hearts the lead, but they trailed 2-1 at half-time, only for Stuart Findlay to score twice, including a stoppage-time winner. Findlay has scored three goals in Hearts’ opening two William Hill Premiership matches, which means he has already equalled his highest-ever tally for a league season. Including the final four matches of last season, Hearts have now recorded 10 consecutive victories in all competitions – the last time they managed this was in October and November 1959 on their way to winning the league title.
8 – Livingston defeated Falkirk 3-1 at the Home of the Set Fare Arena to continue their strong start to the William Hill Premiership season. Scott Pittman, Lewis Smith and Jeremy Bokila were all on the scoresheet for David Martindale’s side as they came out on top in the battle of the newly-promoted sides. The Lions are now unbeaten in their last eight matches against the Bairns, and have won the last four – Falkirk’s last win in this fixture came in the Scottish Cup in 2018 and they haven’t beaten Livi in the league since 2015. This was Livingston’s first ever top-flight victory over the Bairns – the only previous occasion where both sides were in the top division was in 2005/06, when Falkirk secured 10 points out of 12.
8 – St Johnstone defeated Ross County 1-0 at the Global Energy Stadium to deliver a big statement in the William Hill Championship title race. A late goal from substitute Uche Ikpeazu was enough to hand Simo Valakari’s side what could be a crucial three points and ensure they are the only side in the division with two wins out of two. Saints are unbeaten in their last eight meetings with the Staggies, winning six and drawing two, with their last defeat coming back in August 2023. The Perth side have won six consecutive matches for the first time in over a decade – the last time was from November-December 2014, and the first win of that run came against County.
14 – Hamilton Academical beat Queen of the South 4-1 at Palmerston to continue their 100% start to their William Hill League 1 campaign. Two goals from Connor Smith and one apiece from Charlie Telfer and Steven Bradley made it two wins out of two for John Rankin’s side. This is just the second time in over a decade that Hamilton have won their first two league games – the other was in 2023 when they also gained promotion from this division. Accies are unbeaten in their last 14 meetings with the Doonhamers, winning 11 and drawing three, with their last defeat coming back in November 2013.
5 – Dumbarton moved back into a positive points tally in William Hill League 2 thanks to a 2-1 victory over Spartans at Ainslie Park. Kai Kirkpatrick and a Jamie Dishington own goal were enough to make it two wins out of two for Stevie Farrell’s side, cancelling out their five-point deduction. Including their victory over Hamilton Academical in the Premier Sports Cup, the Sons have recorded three straight wins for the first time since November 2023. Dumbarton are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Spartans, winning three and drawing two. Indeed, in eight meetings overall between the sides, Spartans have only recorded a single victory, back in October 2023.
