1 – Heart of Midlothian remain top of the William Hill Premiership thanks to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Hibernian at Tynecastle. Craig Halkett’s stoppage-time goal made it six wins and a draw from seven matches for Derek McInnes’ side, keeping them two points clear of Celtic at the summit. Halkett has scored in back-to-back games – the only other time he did so came in his first two matches for Hearts back in 2019. McInnes has made the best start of any Hearts manager in the top flight since George Burley won his first seven matches back in 2005/06. The Jam Tarts ended a run of four home derbies without a victory – their last win over their rivals in Gorgie was in January 2023.
18 – Aberdeen thumped Dundee 4-0 at Pittodrie to pick up their first win of the William Hill Premiership season. A double from Jesper Karlsson plus goals from Adil Aouchiche and Emmanuel Gyamfi took Jimmy Thelin’s side to within two points of their opponents at the foot of the table. This was Aberdeen’s first home win in eight matches in all competitions – their last success came against Hibernian in April. The Dons are now unbeaten in their last 18 home matches against the Dees, picking up 13 wins and five draws. Dundee’s last win at Pittodrie came under Jim Duffy in 2004, when Steven Milne and Steve Lovell were on the scoresheet in a 2-1 victory.
17 – Ross County defeated Raith Rovers 2-0 at the Global Energy Stadium to secure their first William Hill Championship victory of the season. Goals from Miller Thomson and Ronan Hale ended the Staggies’ club record run of 17 league matches without a victory – their last win was against Kilmarnock back in March. Tony Docherty’s side moved four points clear of Airdrieonians at the foot of the table, but are now just five points behind fourth placed Arbroath. County have won their last five matches against Rovers in all competitions – the others came in the Challenge Cup in 2018/19, both legs of the 2023/24 Premiership Play-Off final and in last season’s Premier Sports Cup group stage.
6 – Hamilton Academical moved to the top of William Hill League 1 thanks to a 3-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Broadwood. Kevin O’Hara, Kyle MacDonald and Oli Shaw scored the goals as John Rankin’s side leapfrogged their opponents in the table. Shaw has found the net in six consecutive matches for the first time in his career – he previously scored in five consecutive games for Kilmarnock in October 2021. Accies have won seven of their last eight matches against the Caley Jags, stretching back to the start of the 2022/23 season. William Hill League 1 continues to be the most competitive division in the SPFL – only four points separate the top six sides after the first quarter of the season.
0 – Edinburgh City defeated Spartans 1-0 in the weekend’s other Edinburgh derby at the Vanloq Community Stadium in William Hill League 2. Jack Duncan scored the only goal of the game as Michael McIndoe’s side clawed back the final three points of their 15-point deduction to move back on to 0 points, and within five of Stranraer at the foot of the table. City have lost just one of their last 12 matches in all competitions – they have eight wins and three draws, with their only defeat coming against Clyde last month. This was the first time either side recorded an away win in this fixture in the SPFL – all four matches last season were won by the home side.
