Weekend in numbers

Some of the facts and figures from the weekend...

10 – Falkirk defeated St Mirren 2-0 at the SMISA Stadium to move further clear in the race for the top six in the William Hill Premiership. Goals from Finn Yeats and Calvin Miller handed John McGlynn’s side another away victory which put them five points clear of seventh-placed Dundee United. Falkirk have finished in the top six of the top flight just once in the last 75 years – that was a fifth-place finish under Jim Jefferies in 1994/95. This was the Bairns’ sixth clean sheet in their last nine matches – they had previously kept just one in their opening 12 games. Falkirk have lost just once in their last 10 visits to Paisley (W4 D5), a run which stretches back to 2008.

5 – Rangers remain in second place in the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Goals from Thelo Aasgaard and James Tavernier handed Danny Rohl’s side a victory which keeps them three points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian, albeit having played a game more. This was Rangers’ first victory at Pittodrie since 2022 – they had failed to win on any of their previous four visits (D2 L2). The Light Blues have won seven of their last eight Premiership matches, with their only defeat coming against Hearts last month. Indeed, their only two league defeats so far this season have both come against the league leaders.

10 – Ross County beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at the Global Energy Stadium to close the gap at the foot of the William Hill Championship table. Jay Henderson scored twice inside the first 10 minutes to hand Stuart Kettlewell a victory on his return to the Staggies, moving them to within two points of ninth-placed Queen’s Park. This was just a third league win of the season for County, and it ended a run of seven games without victory. It had been over 20 years since County scored twice inside 10 minutes in Dingwall – John Rankin and Alex Burke both struck early in a 3-1 win over Clyde in August 2005.

5 – Stenhousemuir extended their lead at the top of William Hill League 1 by thumping East Fife 5-0 at Ochilview. A double from Ross Taylor plus goals from Olly Whyte, Dale Carrick and Nicky Jamieson took Gary Naysmith’s side three points clear of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, though the Caley Jags have two games in hand. The Warriors have now kept five consecutive clean sheets at home in all competitions, equalling a club record – this is the fourth time they have achieved this, the most recent being in 1994/95. This is just the second time in 16 years that the Warriors have won a home game by a five-goal margin, the other was a 5-0 victory over Stranraer in September 2023.

4 – Stirling Albion climbed to sixth in William Hill League 2 after coming from behind to beat Edinburgh City 4-1 at Meadowbank Stadium. Alan Maybury’s side were 1-0 down going into the final 20 minutes, but a hat-trick from Russell McLean and a goal from Ross Cunningham secured a victory which moves them to within two points of the final play-off spot. McLean moved to the top of the William League 2 goalscoring chart with 12 league goals – he now has 18 in all competitions. This was his third hat-trick in little more than a year – he scored back-to-back trebles for Forfar Athletic against Stirling Albion and Bonnyrigg Rose in November and December 2024. The Binos are unbeaten in five matches and have recorded three consecutive wins for the first time this season. Stirling have won on five of their last six visits to Meadowbank with their only defeat coming in February last year.
