1 – Dundee defeated Kilmarnock 2-1 at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park, to move into the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup. Goals from Ashley Hay and Drey Wright ensured that the Dees progressed to set up a visit to Celtic Park in the next round. Steven Pressley’s side have four wins out of five in all competitions – their only defeat came against William Hill Premiership leaders Heart of Midlothian. This was Dundee’s first ever Scottish Cup win at Rugby Park – in six previous visits they had lost five and drawn one. It was also their first away win over top-flight opposition in the cup since they defeated Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park in February 2008.
7 – Dunfermline Athletic pulled off a cup upset by beating William Hill Premiership high-flyers Hibernian 1-0 at KDM Group East End Park. A dramatic stoppage-time own goal from Miguel Chaiwa sent Neil Lennon’s side into Round 5, where they will host fellow Fifers Kelty Hearts. This was their first ever home win over Hibs in the Scottish Cup – they had three draws and two defeats in five previous meetings. The Pars ended a run of seven Scottish Cup ties without a victory against top-flight opposition – their last success was a penalty shoot-out win over Aberdeen in March 2009, when they went on to reach the final.
4 – William Hill League 1 leaders Stenhousemuir thumped William Hill Championship side Greenock Morton 4-0 at Ochilview to book their place in Round 5 of the Scottish Cup. Two goals from Matty Aitken and one apiece from Nicky Jamieson and Gregor Buchanan secured an emphatic victory and set up a mouthwatering tie at home to local rivals Falkirk. Gary Naysmith’s side are now unbeaten in 17 home matches in all competitions, and have kept a club record six consecutive clean sheets at home. Saturday’s win equalled the biggest ever victory by a third-tier side over second-tier opposition in the Scottish Cup – the Warriors were the first team to do it when they beat St Johnstone 4-0 back in 1995, and there have also been 4-0 wins for Clyde over Raith Rovers in 1999 and Gretna against Clyde in 2006.
3 – Hamilton Academical climbed out of the bottom two in William Hill League 1 thanks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Peterhead at Balmoor. Kevin O’Hara and Steven Bradley both gave Accies the lead, only to see Peterhead twice equalise, but Stephen Hendrie scored a dramatic late winner to help his side climb to 8th place. Hamilton ended a run of seven away matches without a victory – their last success on the road came against Montrose in October. This was Accies’ first ever league win at Balmoor – they had two draws and a defeat in three previous visits, although they did win there in the Scottish Cup in 1934.
5 – East Kilbride defeated Stirling Albion 2-1 at Forthbank to close the gap at the top of William Hill League 2 to five points. John Robertson and Joao Balde were on target for Mick Kennedy’s side as they picked up their first win in five matches. Robertson took his tally to 11 league goals, and an incredible 23 in all competitions. Kilby have won all four of their competitive matches against the Binos – they beat them in the Challenge Cup in 2023/24 and have won all three league meetings this season.
