World Cup connections - Claudio Caniggia
Hugely gifted, hard-working and blessed with tremendous pace, Claudio Caniggia was a major player for Argentina during the 1990s, amassing 50 caps for his country.
He played at the World Cups of 1990 and 1994 but missed the final of Italia 90 because of suspension, having scored against the host nation in the semi-finals of the competition.
The Argentina attacker played for River Plate and Boca Juniors prior to a shock switch to the SPL in the autumn of 2000 when Ivano Bonetti lured him to Dundee from Italian outfit Atalanta.
Caniggia made an immediate impact with a goal on his debut against Aberdeen and another in a derby win over Dundee United cemented his hero status at Dens Park.
He moved to Rangers in the summer of 2001 and continued to prosper, scoring in a League Cup final victory over Celtic and netting in the 6-1 win over Dunfermline on the last day of 2002/03 as Alex McLeish's men took the title in dramatic fashion on goal difference.
Caniggia finished his career with a spell in Qatar but left behind many great memories for supporters of both the Dark Blues and the Light Blues.
