Celtic clinch title in style

Celtic retained the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title with an emphatic 4-1 win over third-placed Inverness CT at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon

Celtic retained the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title with an emphatic 4-1 win over third-placed Inverness CT at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon.

Neil Lennon's side needed just a point to be crowned champions and it was goalless at the interval but Celtic turned on the style after the break to notch up an 11th straight home league win.

Top scorer Gary Hooper broke the deadlock on the hour mark and midfielder Joe Ledley doubled their lead before Hooper made it 3-0. Substitute Georgios Samaras netted a late fourth before Aaron Doran pulled one back for Terry Butcher's side in stoppage time.

It is the eighth time Celtic have won the SPL title and they will be presented with the trophy after their home match with St Johnstone on Saturday May 11, live on Sky Sports at 12.15pm.

Celtic's success confirms their place in the Champions League qualifiers for season 2013/14 - they will enter the competition in qualifying round two on July 16/17.
