Celtic’s John Guidetti has been named SPFL Player of the Month for October, after being voted the month’s outstanding performer across all four divisions.

The Swedish striker featured in all three of Celtic’s SPFL Premiership games last month, netting in the wins away to Ross County (5-0) and at home to Kilmarnock (2-0).

The 22-year-old striker then rounded off the month by taking home the match ball following a hat-trick in Celtic’s 6-0 Scottish League Cup quarter-final demolition of Partick Thistle.

Guidetti, presented with his first SPFL award at Celtic’s Lennoxtown training base today by SPFL Facebook competition winner David Brockett, has started November as he finished October – scoring the only goal in his side’s home success against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.

Currently on a season-long loan at Celtic Park from English Premier League champions Manchester City, Guidetti was also called up to the Sweden squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers away to Montenegro and Moldova.

The SPFL’s monthly awards are held in conjunction with the Scottish Football Writers’ Association, with winners voted for by members of the Scottish media. Also included in the voting panel is one lucky Scottish football fan, and this month it was Clydebank supporter David Brockett.

David won the SPFL’s Facebook competition to take part in the voting process, with the additional prize of presenting an award to some of the winners. The SPFL will run the competition again ahead of voting for awards for November – keep an eye on the official SPFL Facebook page for details: www.facebook.com/spflofficial

Winners of the other SPFL awards for October 2014 – overall Young Player of the Month, as well as a Manager of the Month for each of the four leagues – will be announced soon.
