Anton McElhone had been in interim charge at Cappielow since the departure of David Hopkin in December but the club have opted for more experience in the remaining eight matches of their Scottish Championship campaign.
Former St Mirren, Queen of the South and Queen's Park boss MacPherson will be assisted by Andy Millen, starting with Saturday's trip to Dunfermline.
