Rangers and Celtic meet for the first time in almost three years on Sunday in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup, presented by QTS.
Rangers kicked off their Scottish League Cup campaign back in August against a resolute Queen’s Park side at the Spiders’ temporary home in Airdrie.
A double from Kris Boyd was enough as the Gers set up a second round tie against Inverness at Ibrox.
Lewis Macleod secured Rangers’ place in the third round with 12 minutes remaining. He capitalised on a moment of hesitancy in the Caley Jags box, with his deflected shot beating Caley Jags keeper Dean Brill.
Next up for Rangers were Peter Houston’s Falkirk side.
Former Gers youngster Rory Loy opened the scoring for the Bairns with just five minutes on the clock but the visitors got back on level pegging two minutes later as Owain Tudor Jones inadvertently flicked a Stevie Smith cross into his own net.
Dean Sheils latched onto an excellent through ball to put Rangers ahead on 65 minutes before Ian Black sealed the deal with a third in stoppage time with a fine shot from outside the box.
Rangers booked their place in the semi-finals at the end of October at the expense of Premiership side St. Johnstone.
Lewis Macleod was the hero for the home side. With the tie goal-less and heading for extra time, Macleod, now at Brentford, found space in the middle of the box to send a superb header past Alan Mannus.
