GK – Cammy Binnie (Albion Rovers)
It was the perfect debut for the ex-Stirling Albion No 1, who kept a clean sheet and saved two penalty kicks in Rovers’ shoot-out victory over Ayr United.
DEF – Jason Naismith (Kilmarnock)
The full-back put in an assured performance and notched a debut goal for Killie in their 2-0 win over East Kilbride at K-Park.
DEF – Stuart Morrison (Queen’s Park)
With Lee Kilday and Peter Grant missing, Morrison slotted seamlessly into the heart of the defence and helped earn a clean sheet in the Spiders’ 1-0 win away to Queen of the South.
DEF – Tom Parkes (Livingston)
Recently signed from Exeter City, the powerful Livi defender showed his qualities at both ends of the park. He scored the Lions’ opening goal inside 60 seconds and helped Livi keep a clean sheet.
MID – Nathan Flanagan (Stirling Albion)
Debuts don’t come much better than this! The Binos’ new winger endeared himself to the supporters instantly, scoring two superb solo goals – one of them right at the end – as Stirling defeated Cove Rangers 3-2 in Aberdeen. He is the Matchday 1 Star Man!
MID – Mark Whatley (Montrose)
Swapping Arbroath maroon for Montrose blue, the midfielder impressed with his range of passing and calming presence on an afternoon where the ‘Mo swept aside Brora Rangers 3-0 at Links Park.
MID – Michael Tidser (Kelty Hearts)
It was a typically astute midfield performance from the Kelty captain, who found himself unlucky to be on the losing side against Premiership opponents Dundee United on Friday.
MID – Gary Mackay-Steven (Heart of Midlothian)
The Jambos kicked off their Premier Sports Cup campaign with a 2-0 win at Balmoor. Mackay-Steven scored Hearts’ opener and was an attacking threat throughout.
FWD – Lawrence Shankland (Dundee United)
The Terrors’ talisman notched his first goal of the season, netting the winner in United’s 1-0 victory over SPFL new boys, Kelty Hearts.
FWD – Nikolay Todorov (Dunfermline Athletic)
It didn’t take the Pars’ new number 10 long to find his goalscoring boots. The Bulgarian forward struck twice (including a sublime dinked effort) as the Pars ran out 4-2 winners over Partick Thistle in Maryhill.
FWD – Lewis Vaughan (Raith Rovers)
Lewis Vaughan just loves scoring on derby day! The forward found the net and impressed as Rovers defeated local rivals Cowdenbeath 1-0 in their Group D curtain raiser.
