Team of the Week

Forfar Athletic striker Stefan McCluskey named star man in SPFL Team of the Week after his 11-minute hat-trick against Annan Athletic!

GK – Craig Gordon (Heart of Midlothian)
A huge weekend of Scottish Cup semi-final action at Hampden kicked off with an exciting Edinburgh derby on Saturday afternoon. Hearts prevailed as 2-1 winners, with Gordon’s stunning second-half save keeping his side in front and booking the Jambos’ place in May’s final!

DEF – Adam Corbett (Stenhousemuir)
One of cinch League 2’s most consistent performers this season, Corbett put in a typically-assured display on the right side of defence as the Warriors beat Albion Rovers 4-1. He also gave Stenny the lead with a fine header inside the first minute!

DEF – Mihai Popescu (Hamilton Accies)

They say never to fall in love with a loan player but Romanian defender Popescu has made himself a huge fans’ favourite at Accies this season. He was outstanding in Hamilton’s 1-0 win at Cappielow on Saturday.

DEF – Kyle Benedictus (Raith Rovers)
It was a 90th-minute winner from Matej Poplatnik that secured Rovers’ crucial 1-0 win at Firhill. But skipper Benedictus was a rock at the back and made a goal-saving tackle to preserve a clean sheet for his side against Partick Thistle.

DEF – Nick McAllister (Clyde)

Clyde secured their cinch League 1 status at the weekend with a 2-1 victory over high-flying Montrose. Defender McAllister scored the winning goal and put in a top all-round display.

MID – Fraser Fyvie (Cove Rangers)
The Toonsers edged ever closer to securing their second SPFL promotion in three seasons, with a routine 3-0 win over Alloa Athletic. Fyvie continued his rich vein of scoring form, netting a pair of second-half goals for Paul Hartley’s side.

MID – Rory MacEwan (Elgin City)
Elgin City secured cinch League 2 safety with a 2-0 win over Stirling Albion on Saturday. It was City’s first away win since December (interestingly, also against Stirling). MacEwan came off the bench at half-time and opened the scoring with a cracking finish!

MID – John Lundstram (Rangers)
The Gers secured their place in the Scottish Cup final with a 2-1 extra-time win over rivals Celtic on Sunday. Lundstram was named Man of the Match, with his tireless work rate, breaking up of play, and ability to drive his side forward playing a huge part in the Light Blues’ victory.

FWD – Callumn Morrison (Falkirk)
Falkirk have badly missed Morrison over large parts of this season. The attacker’s pace, energy and cutting edge were on full display in Saturday’s 3-1 win over East Fife. The Bairns No 7 scored a pair of fine goals and was the best player on the park.

FWD – Jack Hamilton (Arbroath)
The Lichties’ promotion dream is still very much alive and kicking! After Killie dropped points in the Highlands on Friday night, Dick Campbell’s men hit five past Queens on a fine afternoon at Gayfield. Hamilton bagged a brace for his side, including a sure-fire Goal of the Month contender!

FWD – Stefan McCluskey (Forfar Athletic)
There could only be one player taking this week’s Star Man spot! Loons forward McCluskey hit a first-half hat-trick in a stunning 5-1 win over second-placed Annan Athletic. A lovely lob into the top corner, a fine turn and finish and a coolly converted penalty saw Forfar’s main man take home the match ball!
