Team of the Week

Craig Fowler from A View from the Terrace names his William Hill SPFL XI

GK - Ross Laidlaw (Ross County)

The goalkeeper made a tremendous save, the best of the William Hill Premiership's opening weekend, from Motherwell's Ewan Wilson as County started their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Fir Park.

DEF - Gerald Taylor (Hearts)

Hearts seemed to have nabbed themselves an exciting addition in the Costa Rican, who impressed with both his defensive work and his hard running in the Jam Tarts' 0-0 draw with Rangers.

DEF - Rhys McCabe (Airdrieonians)

While the post-match talking points would focus on Raith Rovers and their decision to part company with Ian Murray, his opposite number, McCabe, played a crucial role for his side. McCabe marshalled his team excellently from his typical role at the heart of the defence.

DEF - Jack Murray (Elgin City)

A summer signing from Buckie Thistle, Murray claimed the Man of the Match award on his league debut and netted a goal as Allan Hale's side defeated visitors East Fife 4-2 to sit top of William Hill League 2.

DEF - Richard Taylor (St Mirren)

The Buddies' centre-half was back to his best on the left of the three-man defence as St Mirren had to withstand some pressure before ultimately cruising to victory over Hibernian with a 3-0 triumph.

MID - Ben Dempsey (Ayr United)

Ayr sit top of the William Hill Championship table after a 2-0 victory over Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park. Dempsey was head and shoulders above everyone with his performance, doing a bit of everything in a dominant display in the middle of the park

MID - Sivert Heltne Nilsen (Aberdeen)

There's no shortage of talent in central midfield for Aberdeen but the signing of the experienced Norwegian already looks like a shrewd move. Fresh off an excellent showing in the Premier Sports Cup, Heltne Nilsen was Aberdeen's best player as they defeated St Johnstone 2-1 on Monday night, including an assist for the eventual winner.

MID - Reo Hatate (Celtic)

Celtic's title defence got off to the perfect start with a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock. The champions managed 33 shots on goal, had 83 per cent possession and scored twice in each half. Hatate got the first and was thoroughly dominant in the centre of the park. He is the star man in this team.

FWD - Malik Zaid (Annan Athletic)

The attacker got the clinching third goal for Annan and sparkled on the wing as Wullie Gibson's side got off to the ideal start in William Hill League 1 with a 3-1 victory away to Cove Rangers.

FWD - Ross MacIver (Falkirk)

He may not have got on the scoresheet, but MacIver was the best player on the pitch as Falkirk won their first game back in the second tier since 2019 with a 2-1 victory over Queen's Park on Friday night.

FWD - Kristijan Trapanovski (Dundee United)

The Macedonian lived up to the pre-season hype with an excellent showing in Dundee United's thrilling 2-2 draw with rivals Dundee on Sunday, including netting the opening goal for the hosts.
