Team of the Week

Craig Fowler from A View from the Terrace names his cinch SPFL XI after the weekend's games...

GK – Sam Murdoch (Greenock Morton)

The 17-year-old was parachuted into Morton's trip to Airdrie on a needs-must basis but ended up having a fine debut with a clean sheet, an assist and a crucial late save as Morton won 1-0.

DEF – Kelsey Ewen (Stenhousemuir)

Stenhousemuir got themselves a crucial late equaliser in their clash with Caley Thistle, a result which keeps them two points ahead of Alloa Athletic in the fight for the final play-off place in William Hill League One. Ewen, restored to the starting XI after a spell as a substitute, was the stand-out player for the Warriors.

DEF – Kieran Watson (Spartans)

Spartans remain very much in the hunt for a play-off place in William Hill League Two after defeating Clyde 2-0 at the weekend. Defender Watson was the stand-out player in Spartans colours as the home side claimed victory at Ainslie Park.

DEF – Graeme Shinnie (Aberdeen)

Aberdeen had to be patient but finally got their reward against nine-man Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday, winning the match 2-1 late in extra-time. Shinnie led by example as he defended valiantly from left-back and looked to drive his team forward.

MID – Aaron Arnott (Bonnyrigg Rose)

Bonnyrigg threw themselves a lifeline with a 2-0 win at Forfar Athletic which keeps their hopes of avoiding the play-offs alive in William Hill League Two. Arnott impressed on the right of midfield for Jonny Stewart's side, who have a four-point gap to overhaul with two games remaining.

MID – Callum McGregor (Celtic)

Celtic will face Aberdeen in May's Scottish Cup final after making comfortable work of St Johnstone on Sunday, winning 5-0 after being up 4-0 at the half. McGregor netted the first and played a part in two other goals.

MID – Stephen Kelly (Livingston)

Kelly scored twice and put in an excellent display in the middle of the park as Livingston wiped the floor with Ayr United on Friday night as a 5-0 victory moved them within three points of Falkirk at the top of the William Hill Championship table.

MID – Ross Matthews (Raith Rovers)

Falkirk had the chance to all but wrap up the second-tier title on Saturday but crumbled at the end of their meeting with Raith Rovers, who are now level on points with Partick Thistle for the final play-off spot. Rovers netted three times after the 88th minute to defeat the 10-man hosts 3-1 as Matthews put in a terrific display in the centre of the park.

MID – Kai Kennedy (Queen of the South)

Kennedy ran rings around the Kelty Hearts defence and managed to get on the scoresheet as Queens moved into third place in the third tier, triumphing 3-1 for their fourth win in succession. The former Falkirk winger has played a huge part in the Doonhamers' good form in recent weeks.

FWD – Tommy Muir (Annan Athletic)

This week's Star Man comes from near the bottom of League 1 after Annan Athletic gave their survival hopes a huge shot in the arm with a 5-1 victory over champions Arbroath. Muir netted twice and set up another as Willie Gibson's men moved to within a point of Inverness CT in eighth place.

FWD – Nathan Austin (East Fife)

The title race is very much back on in League Two after East Fife took full advantage of Peterhead losing to Elgin City with a 2-0 victory over Stirling Albion. Austin helped himself to both goals in the win - his 12th and 13th of the league campaign.
