The 21-year-old was voted Young Player of the Year for Dick Campbell's side as they finished fifth in the Championship table in 2019/20.
Virtanen will now again link up with the Red Lichties, who begin the new season with a Betfred Cup tie away to Stirling Albion on Tuesday October 6.
