Ledley goal sends Celtic top

Celtic beat Rangers 1-0 at Parkhead on Wednesday night to move to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with a ninth straight SPL win.

Wales midfielder Joe Ledley scored the only goal of the game when he headed a Charlie Mulgrew corner past Allan McGregor seven minutes after half-time.

Neil Lennon's men are now two points clear at the summit going into Monday's game against bottom club Dunfermline while Ally McCoist's team entertain Motherwell the same afternoon.

Elsewhere, Francisco Sandaza bagged a first-half double as St Johnstone overcame Kilmarnock 2-0 at McDiarmid Park to close the gap on third-placed Motherwell to just two points.

Pat Fenlon earned his first point as Hibernian manager but Inverness CT hit back for a 1-1 draw at Easter Road, where Jonny Hayes cancelled out Garry O'Connor's opener.

St Mirren and Dundee United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in Paisley, all the goals coming in an incredible eight-minute spell in the first half. Steven Thompson and Graham Carey twice had Saints in front but Jon Daly then Stuart Armstrong earned the visitors a draw.
