Motherwell into cup final

Motherwell beat St Johnstone 3-0 at Hampden this afternoon to clinch a place in the Scottish Cup final for the first time since they famously defeated Dundee United to lift the trophy in 1991.

Stephen Craigan opened the scoring early on with a header from a corner for his first goal in five years and Jamie Murphy and John Sutton were also on target for Stuart McCall's men.

All the goals came in the first half as St Johnstone's hopes of reaching the final for the first time in their history were shattered and Well will now face Aberdeen or Celtic on May 21.

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be in the final. I think we probably merited it but after 25 minutes and we were 2-0 up and not really played, to be honest."

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes said: "We expected so much from ourselves. To be so poor defensively as we were in the first 45 minutes, very rarely do you get away with it.
