SPFL thanks fans for backing No Rest For The Wicked campaign

The project was well received by supporters and clubs

The SPFL has praised Scottish football fans and clubs for their backing of the League’s No Rest for the Wicked campaign – which received over 10 million social media impressions during the winter break.

Football content creators Sam North and Sam Wardrop went behind the scenes at teams across the cinch Championship, League 1 and League 2 as part of the innovative collaboration to showcase the drama across those divisions.

The campaign was well received by supporters and received over 10m social media impressions across SPFL’s social channels and Sam North and Sam Wardrop’s personal pages. There was also a rise in nearly 5,000 followers across the SPFL’s pages during the partnership, as well as a double-digit growth in visits to the League’s Facebook and Instagram pages compared to the previous fortnight.

Sam North and Sam Wardrop filmed content with players, staff and fans at clubs across the divisions, while Glasgow-based graphic designer Jemma McQuillan, whose work has been showcased by the NBA and French Football Federation, brought the campaign to life through a series of striking visuals.

Calum Beattie, SPFL chief operating officer, said: “We’re really pleased with how well the campaign was received.

“The content produced by Sam North and Sam Wardrop, as well as the graphics by Jemma McQuillan, were great, and we’ve had really positive feedback from both our member clubs and football fans about the No Rest for the Wicked project.

“I’d also like to thank supporters of Scottish football for how they’ve got behind the project, and we’re keen to continue to try out new ideas, such as this, in 2024 and beyond.”

Sam North said: “I loved working on No Rest for the Wicked and the fans I’ve spoken to really enjoyed it.

“It was great to film on matchdays at Cove Rangers, East Fife and Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the very first time, and, more generally, to work in partnership with the SPFL on an exciting project like this.”

Ex-Dundee United, Airdrieonians and Dumbarton player turner creator Sam Wardrop added: “All the clubs I visited - Dumbarton, Falkirk and Raith Rovers – provided great access and the players and staff were really open, which was really good to see.

“Speaking to people like Lewis Vaughan at Raith Rovers about his return from serious injury was really inspiring, and I hope the campaign helped show a bit more about life behind the scenes at an SPFL club.”

The campaign was launched to appeal to younger football fans and reinforce the breadth and depth of fandom in Scotland’s professional Leagues.

FootyAdventures YouTuber Sam North has now spotlighted the matchday experience with vlogs from 40 of the 42 clubs in the SPFL pyramid, with Montrose’s Links Park and Peterhead’s Balmoor Stadium the only two grounds he’s still to cover a game from.

Sam Wardrop, who last played professional football over two years ago, is currently filming his Return to Pro series on his social media sites including TikTok and Instagram, which follows his attempts to return to being a pro-footballer within a year and has proven to be a hit with football fans.

The cinch SPFL’s Scottish Football Round-Up continues to be available to watch on the SPFL’s official YouTube channel.
