Team of the Week

Craig Fowler from A View from the Terrace names his SPFL XI with Dundee's Luke McCowan the Star Man...

GK - Dimitar Mitov (St Johnstone)

Saints got off the mark with their first cinch Premiership point thanks to a 0-0 draw at Celtic Park. In a strong defensive display by Saints, standing in the way of the champions was Bulgarian shot stopper Dimitar Mitov, who produced an excellent goalkeeping display.

DEF - Dan Casey (Motherwell)

The Steelmen recovered from losing the opening goal to record a victory against Kilmarnock at Fir Park. As well as impressing at the back, Casey popped up in the opposition penalty box and showed admirable composure to score the equaliser and provide the launchpad for Motherwell’s comeback.

DEF - Keith Watson (Raith Rovers)

Rovers came out on top in the first Fife league derby in the second tier with Sam Stanton’s goal giving Ian Murray’s men three points. Experienced defender Watson put in a stellar performance in defence to ensure Rovers kept the home side at bay and earn some early season bragging rights over their rivals.

DEF - Kevin Holt (Dundee United)

Dundee United enjoyed their trip to Ayrshire as they returned to Tayside after a 3-0 win at Somerset Park. While Kevin Holt will have enjoyed his role in keeping a clean sheet, he delighted the travelling fans with two goals from set plays as Jim Goodwin’s men stayed in touch at the top of the cinch Championship table.

MID - Luke McCowan (Dundee)

After some confusion whether he’d make the starting XI against Hearts, Luke McCowan produced a brilliant performance as Dundee secured their first cinch Premiership victory since winning promotion back to the top flight. McCowan’s winning goal was a piece of individual brilliance, spotting Zander Clark off his line and clipping a well-placed shot into the top corner. The 25-year-old has already won two Man of the Match accolades this season and now he can add Team of the Week’s Star Man to his list of prizes.

MID - Dominic Docherty (Annan Athletic)

Annan Athletic got the better of Edinburgh City in a thrilling five-goal encounter at Galabank at the weekend, their first win as a cinch League 1 side. Docherty netted twice in the win before Tommy Goss scored the winner late in the match. Docherty’s double ensures he gets the nod in midfield.

MID - Kerr McInroy (Partick Thistle)

Partick Thistle are up and running in the cinch Championship, courtesy of a 3-1 home win against league leaders Queen’s Park. Kerr McInroy bagged a double at Firhill with an energetic performance in just his second league appearance since joining on loan from Kilmarnock. The 22-year-old could be a key player for Kris Doolan’s men this term.

MID - James Penrice (Livingston)

Penrice made a big impression for David Martindale’s Lions last term and he produced his best performance of 23/24 to date with two assists in Livingston’s 3-2 win over Hibernian at Easter Road. It was Livingston’s first away league win since January, when Penrice scored twice in a 4-2 win over St. Johnstone.

FWD - Kemar Roofe (Rangers)

This was the striker’s first start for Rangers since April 2022 and he made sure it was an afternoon to remember - scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Ross County. As well as finding the net, Roofe impressed as the focal point of the attack as Michael Beale’s men prepared for a big week ahead with three points in Dingwall.

FWD - Ross MacLean (Dumbarton)

The attacker scored twice at Ochilview as Dumbarton stormed into a 4-0 half-time lead over Stenhousemuir, going on to win 4-2. MacLean showed good reactions to fire in his first before remaining calm to grab a second for Stevie Farrell’s Sons. With three goals to his name in cinch League 2, the ex-Queen’s Park man is making a big impression early in the season.

FWD - Kenan Dünnwald-Turan (Arbroath)

While he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, the German was instrumental in Arbroath’s 3-0 triumph over Greenock Morton at Cappielow. The summer signing tormented the home backline as Dick Campbell’s men moved up to eighth place in the cinch Championship.
