The Dons' most recent success came in March 2014 when Derek McInnes led them to victory over Inverness Caley Thistle, 4-2 on penalties after a tense 0-0 draw at Celtic Park.

Adam Rooney converted the decisive kick, with Barry Robson, Nicky Low, and Scott Vernon also successful while Billy McKay and Greg Tansey missed for John Hughes's men.

It was Aberdeen's first trophy since they beat Dundee 2-0 in November 1995 to win the League Cup during Roy Aitken's time as manager.
