Cowdenbeath have announced that long-serving captain John Armstrong has left the Ladbrokes League 1 club.
The former Hearts defender signed a permanent deal at Central Park in 2009, having previously been on loan from Tynecastle, and went on to make 238 league appearances.
A club spokesman said: “Cowdenbeath FC can confirm that following discussions with club captain John Armstrong it has now been mutually agreed to release John from his contract in order that he might pursue some alternative career opportunities.
"John leaves with the very best wishes of all at Central Park and grateful thanks for the leading role he played in our successes of recent years – including two promotions, some wonderful play-off occasions, a title and four second-tier seasons during one of the club’s finest eras."
