The new-look Betfred Cup kicks off this weekend, with 40 clubs competing across eight groups of five for a place in the last 16.

Here are a few ties to look out for on matchday one of the tournament…

Arbroath v Dundee United - Friday, 7.45pm (BT Sport) - Group C
There's an intriguing local derby at Gayfield as Ray McKinnon takes charge of Dundee United for the first time in a competitive game against Dick Campbell's Arbroath, who have brought in a host of new signings over the summer.

Motherwell v Rangers - Saturday, 3.00pm (BT Sport) - Group F
It's an all-Premiership encounter at Fir Park on matchday one. Motherwell were comfortable winners when the sides met in the play-offs in May 2015 but Rangers triumphed 2-0 at Ibrox when the teams last crossed paths in this competition in September 2012.

Montrose v Ross County - Saturday, 3.00pm - Group D
Ross County begin the defence of the trophy they won against Hibernian in March with a visit to Links Park and Jim McIntyre’s men will expect to make a winning start against their Ladbrokes League 2 opponents in a section that also includes Raith Rovers, Alloa and Cove Rangers.

Clyde v Kilmarnock - Saturday, 3.00pm - Group H
Killie boss Lee Clark has signed a whole new team after their brush with relegation last season while Clyde gaffer Barry Ferguson has also been busy as he builds his squad for what he hopes will be another promotion challenge in Ladbrokes League 2

Ayr United v Hamilton Accies - Saturday, 3.00pm - Group G
Ayr United are preparing for life in the Ladbrokes Championship after winning promotion via the play-offs - Ian McCall's men kick off their Betfred Cup campaign against an Accies side who finished 10th in the Premiership in 2015/16.
