We continue our countdown to the Betfred Cup by looking back at the meeting of Motherwell and Rangers in the 1987 League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

The teams go head to head at Fir Park on Saturday July 16 - live on BT Sport at 3.00pm, with the Ibrox side having triumphed 2-0 when they last crossed paths in this competition in 2012.

Back in September 1987, Graeme Souness' side were 3-1 winners at the National Stadium, with goals from Robert Fleck, substitute Mark Falco and a Steve Kirk own goal.

Rangers had beaten Hearts 4-1 in the quarter-finals while the Steelmen reached the last four thanks to a 1-0 home win over Hibernian.

Paul Smith scored for Tommy McLean's men in the semi-final but Rangers, who included the likes of Terry Butcher, Trevor Francis, Graham Roberts and Davie Cooper, came out on top and went on to win the final on penalties after an epic 3-3 draw against Aberdeen.
