Stirling Albion have named Stuart McLaren as their new manager following the departure of Greig McDonald a fortnight ago.
The 39-year-old has been the head coach at Loughborough University since 2011 and was previously in charge of Brisbane Strikers before a spell as No 2 at North Queensland Fury in the Australian A-League.
He had a two-year stint with Stirling Albion as a player from 1996 to 1998 and has signed a contract with the League 1 club until the end of 2015/16.
McLaren will be assisted by former Stenhousemuir manager Martyn Corrigan and their first match in charge will be Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup third-round replay with Hurlford United.
Stirling Albion Chairman Stuart Brown said: “We received more than 30 applications for the post and felt that Stuart was the outstanding candidate.
“He has 10 years’ experience working as an assistant and head coach in senior professional clubs and elite youth development programmes in Australia and England and has a strong network of contacts in various areas of the game in the UK.
“He holds a UEFA ‘A’ Licence and it was while doing his coaching badges at Largs that he met Martyn Corrigan. They have a strong mutual respect for each other and I am absolutely delighted to have on board their combination of skills and experience.”
