Miles Storey and Ryan Christie scored inside half an hour for John Hughes' side but Ash Taylor pulled one back before the break. Christie saw red in the final minute as the Dons' lead at the top was cut to four points.

Second-placed Celtic were held to a 0-0 draw by Hearts at Parkhead and had defender Efe Ambrose red carded in stoppage time for denying Sam Nicholson a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Hamilton Accies are up to fourth place after coming from behind to beat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park. Greg Kiltie gave Killie a first-half lead but Dougie Imrie and Ali Crawford struck in the second half before the home side had Lee Ashcroft sent off in injury time.

Ten-man St Johnstone hit back to beat Dundee United 2-1 at McDiarmid Park with second-half goals from Graham Cummins and Simon Lappin. United went ahead through a Billy McKay penalty midway through the first half after Saints keeper Alan Mannus had been sent off.

Motherwell defeated bottom club Partick Thistle 2-1 at Fir Park, with a Frederic Frans own goal putting them in front. Scott McDonald added the second but David Amoo reduced the deficit.

Dundee rallied to earn a 3-3 draw with Ross County at Dens Park with goals from Greg Stewart and a Rory Loy double, one a penalty. Liam Boyce, James McPake (og) and Michael Gardyne had the Staggies 3-1 up at the break but they had Andrew Davies red carded in 53 minutes.
