Cappielow clash ends all square

Morton and St Mirren drew 0-0 at Cappielow on Friday night in a match that provided plenty of entertainment and drama despite the lack of goals.

A crowd of 5,343 turned up for the first league meeting between the teams since 2000 and the pace of the game was high from the start.

Saints striker Steven Thompson had an early header from a corner disallowed for a push but Morton hit back and Denny Johnstone, on loan from Birmingham City, should have given them the lead just before half-time but sent his effort wide.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in 55 minutes when Luke Conlan saw red for a challenge on Bobby Barr but Ian Murray's men held on for a point, helped by some outstanding saves from recent signing Jamie Langfield.
