Ryan Porteous (pictured) and Adam Watson both scored twice for Grant Murray's side as the Hibs youngsters claimed an emphatic victory.

Celtic were 4-0 winners away to Falkirk and a Shea Gordon double helped Motherwell beat Dundee United 4-2 at Station Park.

Reigning champions Ross County kicked off their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Aberdeen at Glebe Park and it was also 2-2 between last season's runners-up Hamilton Accies and St Johnstone at the SuperSeal Stadium.

Neil McLaughlin scored twice as Partick Thistle and St Mirren drew 3-3 at the Excelsior Stadium while it ended 1-1 between Hearts and Dundee at Ochilview.

Development League West champions Queen of the South started with a 2-0 success away to Clyde and Morton, winners in 2015/16, beat Ayr United 2-1.
