Calum Gallagher’s solitary strike secured a 1-0 win for Rangers against Celtic in the U20 Old Firm derby at Lennoxtown on Monday evening.
Gallagher’s third-minute goal, his third in as many games, gave Rangers their third consecutive win and was achieved without Andy Murdoch, Tom Walsh and Ryan Hardie as they climbed to fifth place in the table.
In-form Partick Thistle shared the spoils as they drew 2-2 with Hibernian on Tuesday. On the back of five straight wins, the Jags knew another victory would ensure they drew level on points with the Edinburgh side. First-half goals from Gary Fraser and Neil McLaughlin sent Thistle on their way to doing so, but a second-half fightback saw Lewis Allan and Conner Duthie level, the latter’s second goal in seven days and his eighth of the season.
Josh Skelly’s last-minute penalty snatched a point as Dundee drew 3-3 with bottom side Inverness CT. Second-half goals from Kane Hull, Ali Sutherland and Liam Polworth gave Inverness a 3-2 lead, but Skelly’s spot-kick levelled matters after strikes from Lee Cameron and Calvin Colquhoun.
Hearts won back-to-back games for just the second time this season, beating Dunfermline and Hamilton Accies. Ian Smith, Lewis Moore, Ally Roy and Robbie Buchanan were all on target for the Jambos as they recorded a 4-1 victory over Dunfermline, with James Thomas scoring for the Pars.
Jordan McGhee and Gary Oliver were the scorers as Hearts defeated second-place Hamilton on Tuesday. Aldin El-Zubaidi, who was recently called up to the Iraq national squad, grabbed a consolation for Accies who remain nine points behind league leaders Aberdeen.
Kilmarnock beat Dundee United 1-0 thanks to a Greg Kiltie goal but in more positive news for the Tannadice side, Development League regular Ali Coote made his first-team debut against Aberdeen at the weekend.
In Paisley, St Mirren followed up Thursday’s 1-0 win over Dundee with a 0-0 draw against St Johnstone on Tuesday. Lewis Morgan bagged his 10th goal of the season against the Dark Blues, in a match that saw the Buddies win their first game in eight.
Goals either side of half-time from James Thomas and David Hopkirk saw Dunfermline Athletic emerge 2-0 winners against Falkirk. Their 10th win of the season also brought their fifth clean sheet of the campaign.
Motherwell drew 1-1 with Ross County in Dingwall. Steven Higgins fired the Steelmen in front after the hour mark but Kyle MacLeod equalised nine minutes later as Country drew their ninth game of the season.
David Brockett
