Rangers are a point back in second place following a 2-2 draw with Motherwell at Dumbarton. David Brownlie and Jordan Thompson scored for Ian Durrant's side, with Chris Cadden and Ryan Watters on target for Stephen Craigan's team.

St Johnstone are third but were pegged back in a 2-2 draw with Dundee at Links Park. Chris Kane had Saints two goals up inside seven minutes but Josh Skelly netted twice in the second half for the Dark Blues.

Dundee United saw off reigning champions Aberdeen 2-0 at Glebe Park thanks to second-half goals from Simon Murray and Brad Smith.

Partick Thistle edged out Falkirk 2-1 at Firhill, David Wilson grabbing the winner after Kevin Nisbet's opener had been cancelled out by Ryan Blair's penalty.

A second-half Barry Cuddihy goal earned St Mirren a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Development League East champions Forfar got their campaign under way with a 3-2 victory over Cowdenbeath at Central Park.

Alloa beat Berwick Rangers 2-0 at the Indodrill Stadium and Stirling Albion kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win against East Stirlingshire on the Forthbank Astro.

Development League West champions Airdrieonians drew 0-0 with Clyde at the Excelsior Stadium but there were plenty of goals elsewhere. Dumbarton thumped Stranraer 6-0 on Sunday and Queen of the South were 5-3 winners away to Morton.
