Hamilton Accies cut the gap at the top of the Development League table to nine points with a 2-1 win over leaders Aberdeen at Balmoor on Tuesday.
Recovering from Lawrence Shankland’s first-minute penalty, goals from Daniel Armstrong and Eamonn Brophy’s spot-kick ensured Accies held on for a win that sees them reclaim second spot.
It was Brophy’s fourth goal against the Dons this season, while top scorer Shankland netted his 27th goal of the season. It means that Aberdeen’s nine-match winning run comes to an end and Accies have two games in hand.
Celtic briefly moved into second spot with a 3-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Monday. Michael Duffy opened the scoring for the Hoops, his second in six days, while Jamie Lindsay and Jaison McGrath’s second-half strikes sealed all three points at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall. It means Celtic have now won six of their last seven games as they look to set up a grandstand finish at the top of the table.
With just a point separating the sides prior to the game, there were five goals in the opening 12 minutes as Dundee won a thriller 4-3 win at Fir Park against Motherwell. Craig Wighton’s double inside five minutes gave Dundee an early two-goal lead, but Jonatan Johansson’s side pulled one back through Ross MacLean. Well then equalised three minutes later through Dom Thomas, before Lee Cameron prodded home as Dundee got their noses back in front. Poor communication between Max Currie and Luke Watt saw Dundee grab a fourth, before Thomas’s 25-yard strike saw him score his 12th goal of the season from midfield.
In the capital, Hibernian couldn’t build on their U20 derby win, drawing 1-1 with Ross County. Conner Duthie was on target for the Hibees, but Rocco Quinn equalised for the visitors as they recorded their eighth draw of the campaign. Like their Edinburgh rivals last week, Hibs ended the match with five Under 17 players on the pitch.
Hearts lost 2-1 to Falkirk on Monday evening. The Bairns recovered from James Keatings’ early goal to reply with two goals via Thomas Grant and Ryan Blair. It was Falkirk’s first win in four games, with the two goalscorers each getting their third and second goals of the season respectively.
Kilmarnock won their first game of 2015 with a 2-0 victory over St Mirren. Goals either side of half-time from Greg Kiltie and Dylan Pooler gave Killie their first win in 12 games, leaving the Buddies without a win in seven.
Rangers, who have won four of their last five, notched their 13th victory of the season, beating Dundee United 2-1. Both Luca Gasparotto and Calum Gallagher scored to give Rangers a two-goal lead, but Scott Smith halved the deficit in the second half.
Partick Thistle avenged the 6-1 defeat inflicted on them earlier in the season with a 2-1 win over Dunfermline. Dominic Docherty’s late goal proved vital as the Jags won their fourth game in a row. Jack Hendry’s header gave Thistle the lead, before the goalscorer deflected a shot into his own net to level for the Pars. Docherty’s second goal in as many games won it with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
