Jonny Hayes broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from distance after half an hour and new loan signing Simon Church grabbed the second goal from close range before half-time, following a Hayes corner which had been flicked on by Kenny McLean.

Premiership top scorer Leigh Griffiths pulled one back in stoppage time but the Dons held on to complete a home double over Ronny Deila's team this season.

Derek McInnes' men have the chance to move level on points at the top of the table on Saturday when they face St Johnstone in a rearranged game at McDiarmid Park.
