Aberdeen have clinched the SPFL Development League title after closest challengers Celtic were held to a 0-0 draw at Falkirk.

Paul Sheerin's side, who have two games still to play - the next of which is against Dunfermline at Pittodrie on Tuesday May 5 - now have an unassailable lead at the top of the table after the reigning champions dropped points on Thursday afternoon.

The young Dons, who have rattled in 83 goals and who have the league’s top scorer in Lawrence Shankland, moved to the brink of the title when they beat Hearts 2-0 at Balmoor on Tuesday evening with what was their 11th win in 12 games and a 24th victory in 30 matches overall.

Despite the goalless draw on Thursday, Celtic have leapfrogged Hamilton into second place, following recent wins over Accies and Kilmarnock.

Jamie McCart and Darnell Fisher were on target for the Hoops at New Douglas Park while Joe Thomson, Tom Rogic and Aidan Nesbitt all netted for Stevie Frail’s side as they edged out a resilient Kilmarnock side 3-2 at Rugby Park. Paul Cairney’s penalty and Rory McKenzie’s goal 10 minutes from time weren’t enough for Killie.

Hibs came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Falkirk, the second consecutive match in which Joe McBride’s side have had to do so. Taylor Morgan’s double put the Bairns on course for their first win in three, but Hibs hit back through Kevin Waugh and Conner Duthie - his third goal in as many matches.

Rangers, sitting in fourth place, recorded a 3-1 win over Dundee on Monday. Kris Boyd’s double and an own goal from Ben Priest gave the Gers a commanding lead, before Josh Skelly pulled one back.

Motherwell got back to winning ways, beating Partick Thistle 2-0 and ending the Jags’ five-match winning run. Two goals in ninety seconds secured the win for the Steelmen, with Everton loanee Conor Grant and Steven Higgins on target.

Inverness Caley Thistle and Ross County shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Highland Football Academy on Tuesday, while St Johnstone and Dundee United drew 0-0.

On Thursday, Inverness CT beat Dunfermline 3-2 and St Mirren drew 2-2 with Ross County.

Congratulations are also in order for the winners of the inaugural East and West Development Leagues - Forfar Athletic and Aidrieonians respectively. The Loons clinched the East title with a 3-0 win over Raith Rovers, their eleventh win from their last twelve matches. It has been this consistent form that has seen them win sixteen of their twenty four matches this season, scoring a record 73 goals in the process.

For Airdrieonians, 58 points from their 28 games were enough to clinch the West title. 12 clean sheets were pivotal as the Diamonds went on a 10 match unbeaten run, scoring 68 goals along the way. Despite having beaten Clyde 2-0 in their final game of the season, they had to wait on Queen of the South to drop points for the title win to be confirmed.
