Aberdeen were knocked out of the Europa League after a 1-1 draw against Kairat Almaty in front of 20,317 fans at Pittodrie on Thursday evening.
The Dons trailed 2-1 from the first leg in Kazakhstan and fell further behind on aggregate when Gerard Gohou struck just before the hour mark.
Kenny McLean gave Derek McInnes's side hope when he pounced with six minutes remaining and Paul Quinn almost took the tie to extra time but his stoppage-time header was tipped over the bar, as the visitors held on to book their place in Friday's play-off draw.
