Dundee have signed former Celtic defender Darren O'Dea on a contract until the end of the current season.

Dark Blues boss Paul Hartley will be without James McPake - who was injured in the derby match on January 2 - for the rest of the campaign and has moved swiftly to increase his options.

O'Dea, 28, is a Republic of Ireland internationalist who joined Celtic as a teenager and has also played for Reading, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Toronto, Metalurh Donetsk and Blackpool.

He recently returned to Scotland after a spell with Mumbai City in India and joins Dundee ahead of their Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Falkirk at Dens Park on Saturday.
