Blair Spittal gave the bottom club the lead but Kane Hemmings equalised and Nick Ross won it with the aid of a deflection in 62 minutes. United had Guy Demel sent off in the closing stages.

Leaders Celtic moved three points clear at the top after beating Partick Thistle 1-0 at Parkhead. Nir Bitton was sent off in the second half but Leigh Griffiths grabbed a last-minute winner.

Third-placed Hearts were held to a 2-2 draw by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Goals from Gavin Reilly and Callum Paterson overturned Conrad Balatoni's opener but Josh Magennis equalised with 10 minutes left.

Inverness Caley Thistle took the honours in the Highland derby as first-half goals from Miles Storey and Greg Tansey saw Ross County defeated 2-0 at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

Ali Crawford converted a penalty deep into stoppage time as the Lanarkshire derby at Fir Park served up a thrilling 3-3 draw. Lucas Tagliapietra and Darian MacKinnon also scored for Hamilton Accies, with Scott McDonald (2) and Louis Moult on target for Motherwell, who had Keith Lasley sent off late on.

St Johnstone play Aberdeen on Sunday, live on BT Sport at 12.30pm.
