Michael Moffat's opener was quickly cancelled out by Gerry McLauchlan and the Pars were reduced to 10 men when Joe Cardle saw red early in the second half but David Hopkirk grabbed a 69th-minute winner as Allan Johnston's team ended Ayr's 14-match unbeaten league run.

Albion Rovers strengthened their grip on third place with a 1-0 victory at Stenhousemuir thanks to a Gary Fisher goal midway through the second half.

Airdrieonians are only outside the top four on goal difference after beating Stranraer 3-1 at Stair Park with goals from Bryan Prunty, Taylor Morgan and Liam Watt. Craig Malcolm replied.

Greig Spence got the only goal at Station Park as Cowdenbeath leapfrogged Forfar with a 1-0 win to move up to seventh in the table.

Bottom club Brechin City held Peterhead to a 1-1 draw at Glebe Park. Leighton McIntosh gave the Blue Toon an early lead but Robert Thomson equalised 10 minutes from time.
