Falkirk have signed experienced midfielder John Rankin following his departure from Ladbrokes Championship rivals Dundee United.

The 33-year-old, who was with Manchester United as a youngster, has also played for Ross County, Inverness Caley Thistle and Hibernian.

Rankin ended his five-year stay at Tannadice in May and joins James Craigen (Raith Rovers), Liam Henderson (Hearts), Lewis Kidd (Queen of the South), Luca Gasparotto (Rangers) and Danny Rogers (Aberdeen, loan) at the Falkirk Stadium for 2016/17.

Manager Peter Houston, who has seen Will Vaulks move to Rotherham, told the club website: "John is a player that I have enjoyed working with in the past and his experience can only enhance the quality of the group that we already have here.”

The Bairns are in Betfred Cup Group B action against St Johnstone on Saturday in a game that is live on BT Sport with a 3.00pm kick-off.
