Hibernian have made central defender Liam Fontaine their sixth signing of the summer.
The 28-year-old former Fulham and Bristol City player has penned a one-year contract at Easter Road and could make his debut against Dumbarton in the League Cup tonight if international clearance is received in time.
Fontaine, who had a loan spell at Kilmarnock in 2005, told Hibs TV: "There were a few factors that made me sign – the prospect of working with the manager, becoming part of a young, hungry squad and the opportunity of playing for such a big club with great supporters.
“Everything pointed towards this being the right move for me and, after spending the last eight years down at Bristol City, coming up here is a fresh challenge and one I’m looking forward to.”
Boss Alan Stubbs added: "Liam is a real quality signing, who will undoubtedly add a huge amount to the squad and further strengthen our defence."
Meanwhile, Michael Nelson, who moved from Kilmarnock a year ago, has left the club to join Cambridge United.
