Forfar beat Alloa 3-1 at Station Park in the first leg of the Championship play-off final on Wednesday night.
Dick Campbell's side went ahead inside 10 minutes when Omar Kader pounced from close range and Chris Templeman headed the second goal early in the second half.
Kyle Benedictus pulled one back for Danny Lennon's men with a header eight minutes from the end but Michael Travis scored a crucial third goal for Forfar in stoppage time when he glanced a corner past Wasps keeper John Gibson.
The second leg takes place at the Indodrill Stadium on Sunday, live on BBC ALBA at 5.30pm.
