Frances Dick, an 11-year-old from Bellshill, received a hero’s welcome at Lennoxtown, when she arrived with the coveted SPFL Premiership Champions Flag.

The Noble Primary pupil has supported the Parkhead side for as long as she can remember and was over the moon when she found out she was to deliver the flag to Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew.

The youngster was chosen after her mum, Mary, nominated her on the SPFL’s Facebook page. Frances was selected at random in a draw featuring more than 70 nominations and also received a pair of tickets to Saturday’s game against Dundee United.

The SPFL, which ran the competition, is believed to be the only league body in the world which presents flags to league winners.

Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said: “The annual presentation of Champions flags to winners of all four SPFL divisions is something which is unique to the Scottish game.

“Ahead of each clubs’ opening home game of the new season, we’re delighted to share the special moment that is delivery and presentation of the flags with young fans who represent the lifeblood and future of the sport in Scotland.”

Mum Mary nominated Frances for her bravery, as she has been in and out of Yorkhill during the past two years while she battled an ear problem.

In her nomination, Mary said: “She is having a hard time just now. This would help cheer her up.”
