Sunday's finalists Dundee United and Celtic last met in the League Cup in an epic semi-final at Hampden on January 28, 2009.
It was goalless after 90 minutes and neither side could break the deadlock in extra time - what followed was a marathon penalty shoot-out that Gordon Strachan's side eventually won 11-10.
Incredibly, the first 16 kicks were all scored then Lee Wilkie and Glenn Loovens both missed as the drama continued. Goalkeepers Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska also found the net but when Willo Flood failed with the 23rd penalty, it allowed Scott McDonald to send Celtic into the final.
There, they prevailed 2-0 after extra time against Rangers thanks to a Darren O'Dea header and an Aiden McGeady penalty, awarded after Kirk Broadfoot had been sent off.
That remains the Parkhead club's most recent League Cup triumph, they lost in the 2011 final to Rangers and to Kilmarnock in 2012.
Dundee United's final appearance on Sunday is their first since 2008, when they were beaten by Rangers on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
