The highest-scoring League Cup final of all time took place at Hampden on October 26, 1974 when a crowd of 53,848 saw Celtic defeat Hibernian 6-3.

It was a remarkable match that saw Joe Harper finish on the losing side despite scoring a hat-trick. Dixie Deans netted a treble for Celtic – having also done so against Hibs in a Division One game the previous week – with Jimmy Johnstone, Steve Murray and Paul Wilson also on target.

Jock Stein’s side ended a run of four straight final defeats with this victory, gaining revenge for a 2-1 defeat to Eddie Turnbull’s team two years earlier.
