Hearts have made former Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis their first signing since they came out of administration earlier this week.
The 28-year-old ex-Cowdenbeath and Leicester City player has agreed a three-year deal at Tynecastle.
Manager Robbie Neilson told the Hearts website: "Morgaro has got a lot of experience and is a good player. He's got a great attitude and a great work-rate.
"His mentality for coming in and doing things properly is what we need from the older players. They need to set an example, and he certainly does that.”
