Aberdeen beat Motherwell 1-0 at Pittodrie in the Friday night match in the Scottish Premiership.
Jonny Hayes finished off a fine move after just two minutes and that goal proved to be decisive in a game of few clear-cut chances.
It was Aberdeen's first home win over the Fir Park club for six years and lifts Derek McInnes' side to fifth in the table, four points behind leaders Hamilton Accies. Stuart McCall's men remain second from bottom after suffering their fourth straight league defeat.
Next up for Motherwell is another Friday night fixture, away to St Johnstone, while Aberdeen's next Premiership outing is at Ross County on Monday November 3, live on BT Sport at 7.45pm.
