Hibernian have signed 27-year-old striker Anthony Stokes on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland internationalist netted 24 goals in his previous spell at Easter Road in 2009/10 and now returns to help Hibs in their bid to earn promotion to the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Stokes began his career with Arsenal and had a loan spell at Falkirk before joining Sunderland in 2007. He has been at Celtic Park since August 2010.

Manager Alan Stubbs, whose side are at home to St Mirren on Saturday, told the club website: "Anthony is a fantastic footballer and will really strengthen the squad.

“We have a number of options in attack and competition for places which is what every manager wants. We are excited about Anthony coming here. I think he will prove to be a real asset.”
