Holders Dundee United begin the defence of their trophy against Cowdenbeath at Tannadice in one of 20 ties on Tuesday, with four more games going ahead on Wednesday.

Four clubs from both the Highland and Lowland Leagues enter in round one, with Lowland champions East Kilbride away to last season's IRN-BRU Cup runners-up St Mirren and Highland holders Buckie Thistle at home to Brechin City.

Colt Teams - U20 sides with two over-age players allowed - from all 12 Premiership clubs are involved, with Aberdeen and St Johnstone going head to head at Glebe Park.

Ross County’s U20s, who won the Development League in 2016/17, are at home to Forfar Athletic and Hamilton Accies, who were runners-up, host Edinburgh City. Celtic's youngsters are away to Annan Athletic, who they beat 12 month ago, while Rangers make the short trip to Dumbarton.

There's an all-Championship tie between Morton and Livingston at Cappielow while League 1 leaders Ayr United are away to East Stirlingshire and League 2 pacesetters Stirling Albion welcome divisional rivals Montrose to Forthbank.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Falkirk, Linfield, Crusaders, The New Saints, Connah’s Quay Nomads, Sligo Wanderers and Bray Wanderers will join the 24 first-round winners in the last 32 on the weekend of September 2/3, with the draw to be made at 1.00pm this Thursday.
